Zygophyllaceae : The Caltrop or Creosote-bush Family This is a small family of some 250 species. Only one species of this family has been collected in the Oapan, San Juan Tetelcingo, and Ameyaltepec area. It may be, however, that this the akistiwewetsi is in fact representative of two species, since some have a noticeably larger flower and this is noted by Nahuatl-speaking consultants, who distinguist the variety with large flowers from those with small flowers. This needs to be researched. The following members of this family have been documented in sources consulted on Guerrero flora: Guaiacum coulteri, Kallstroemia caribaea, Kallstroemia maxima, and Tribulus cistoides. |
