Amaranthaceae : The Amaranth or Pigweed Family

To date two species of this family have been collected in the Oapan, San Juan Tetelcingo, and Ameyaltepec area, belonging to the genera, Amaranthus (1 species) and Gomphrena (1 species). Another species not collected is the domesticated o:lo:xochitl mora:doh, a purple variant of Gomphrena serrata L.

 

The following members of this family have been documented in sources consulted on Guerrero flora: Gomphrena globosa, Gomphrena nitida, Gomphrena serrata, Iresine nigra, and Amaranthus sp..
